Thoughtful Guidance When Designing Your Home
Frequently Asked Questions
What areas do you serve?
1
We serve clients throughout Northeast Georgia, including Athens, Watkinsville, Jefferson, Commerce, Braselton, Gainesville, Cumming, Hartwell, Lake Hartwell, and surrounding communities.
We love partnering with wonderful clients who value thoughtful design and align with our approach. While Northeast Georgia is our primary service area, we may consider projects outside the region based on the scope of the project and our availability.
What types of interior design projects do you take on?
2
We specialize in livable, beautiful interiors for custom homes, renovations, and whole-home furnishings. Our clients are families who want a trusted designer to guide the decisions and curate a home that works effortlessly for everyday life.
Can we hire you for the construction phase only?
3
Yes. For custom homes and renovations, our team provides design guidance for layouts, cabinetry, lighting, plumbing, finishes, and other interior selections during the construction phase. We work alongside your builder to prepare the construction documentation needed to clearly communicate the design intent.
Can you furnish our home from start to finish?
4
Absolutely. Our turnkey furnishing service includes selecting furnishings, lighting, rugs, window treatments, artwork, and accessories to create a collected home. We believe the furnishings truly complete a home, bringing comfort for years to come.
What are the first steps in working together?
5
The first step is completing our inquiry form. If your project appears to be the right fit, we will send a link to schedule a complimentary 45-minute Discovery Call, followed by an initial consultation to assess your home, floor plans, needs, and vision.
After the consultation, we prepare a custom proposal outlining the recommended scope of work and associated investment.
What does the initial consultation include?
6
The purpose of the initial consultation is to gain clarity on the possibilities for your home and the best path forward for your project. Together, we review your home or floor plans, discuss your vision, priorities, likes and dislikes, and begin shaping a thoughtful design direction.
What is the difference between interior design and interior decorating?
7
We are so glad you asked! Interior design shapes how your home functions and feels through space planning, cabinetry, lighting, finishes, and furnishings. Interior decorating focuses on styling an existing space with furniture, textiles, artwork, and accessories.
At Effortless Designs, we merge both of these skillsets to form a cohesive plan for your home.
How involved will I need to be during the design process?
8
Your input is essential at key milestones, but you do not need to manage every detail. Our goal is to take the overwhelm off your plate with our simple and straightforward process.
We build a genuine relationship with you and your family, guide the process, present the best options based on your individual needs, and keep decisions organized so you can feel confident in your home without becoming overwhelmed.
How long does an interior design project typically take?
9
Thoughtful design takes time, and we carefully curate each detail to create a home that feels cohesive and deeply personal to you. The design process typically takes 2–4 months, while furnishings-only projects generally take 3–6 months from design through installation.
Whole-home projects involving construction may take 8 months to 2 years from initial design through final furnishings installation.
Do I need to hire an architect for my home project?
10
We recommend hiring an architect for new construction projects and renovations involving structural changes or additions. We collaborate with your architect and builder from the beginning to ensure the architecture, interior details, and selections work together as one cohesive plan.
How are your interior design services priced?
11
Our services are quoted as a flat fee based on the unique scope and scale of your project. After your initial consultation, we recommend the appropriate level of support and provide a custom proposal outlining your design scope and associated investment so you know exactly what to expect from the beginning.
For smaller projects, we provide the option to work with us through a pre-purchased design hour package.
Do you source furnishings from retail or trade vendors?
12
We primarily source from trade vendors, giving our full service clients access to designer-exclusive furnishings and décor not available to the general public.
For smaller finishing pieces, such as pillows and accessories, we may incorporate select retail sources to complete a cohesive, layered home.
Will I be able to see the furnishings in person before purchasing?
13
For select upholstery pieces, we provide a sit-test experience at one of our trusted trade showrooms in Atlanta so you can experience the comfort and quality in person.
However, not every vendor is available locally, which is why we attend market throughout the year to see, feel, and evaluate furnishings on your behalf.
Can you work with pieces we already own?
15
Yes. Whenever possible, we love incorporating meaningful pieces you already own because we believe your home should reflect your story. During the design process, we thoughtfully evaluate existing furnishings, identify what supports the overall vision, and recommend where new pieces may be needed to complete your home.
When should I hire an interior designer?
14
For custom homes and renovations, we recommend hiring an interior designer as early as possible. Our best recommendation is to start the interview process at the same time as you begin interviewing for your architect. Early involvement allows us to collaborate with your architect and builder so your home feels cohesive from the beginning.
If you are planning a custom home, renovation, or whole-home furnishing project, we would love to learn more about your vision. Begin by completing our inquiry form, and our team will be in touch with the next steps.
