It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
Christmas is a little over three weeks away. There’s something about Christmas that makes this time of the year more special than the others, especially in the home décor department. Although there are trends that pop up here or there, expert interior designers who are styling clients' homes for the holidays have one purpose: to make it feel extra cozy and extra inviting. From the fresh garlands on mantels and Christmas trees decorated with all the trimmings to lush blankets and throw pillows on the couch, all of this comes together to show that Christmas is in the air. This December, I compiled a short list of some of the top Christmas decorating tips that are sure to make your holiday merry and bright.
1. Switch out your flowers for pinecone arrangements. – This small touch will add Christmas scents to your home and a hint of winter nature.
2. Deck the railings and mantels with ribbons – These are fun and easy to incorporate into your holiday décor to bring in the holiday vibes.
3. Spruce up your vignette – Whether it’s a built-in or the top of a dresser chest, add a little Christmas to every part of your home.
4. Waltz in with some nutcrackers – Whether you prefer the vintage nutcracker or the on trend black nickel nutcracker, incorporate these festive figurines in a dining room centerpiece or a fireplace mantel.
5. Get nice and toasty with a roaring fireplace – There is nothing that gets you in the Christmas mood than a warm fire. If you have a fireplace, use it often this season.
6. Make sure to create an earthy Christmas scene in your outdoor spaces. – Whether it is a back patio or a front porch, don’t forget to add the Christmas wreaths and potted seasonal plants to the outside too.
7. Personalize your mudroom – For those of you with those gorgeous mudroom built-ins, add the names of your Christmas guests or add a stocking with their names.
8. Elevate your dining room seating – Drape a stocking over the back of your dining chairs to add holiday appeal. You can also consider filling them with some small snacks on Christmas day for extra holiday fun.
9. Keep the colors crisp – Be sure that your added layers of accessories are cohesive with the rest of your everyday décor.
10. Glitter the tree away – Some glittery ornaments will make your tree shine when the lights turn on.
11. Fresh doesn’t just go for the tree. – Yes, splurge a little this season by using fresh garland to your mantel, railings, headboards, or doorways.
12. Remember to keep it proportional even with the holiday cheer – Keeping items proportional to each other when switching into holiday mode will keep your home classy and sophisticated.
13. Place settings matter during the holidays – When getting ready for Christmas brunch or dinner, add some simple linen napkins and a festive napkin ring holder to add some cheer to the table.
14. Presents can be décor too – Show some extra love and attention to the choice of wrapping paper and ribbons to keep a cohesive yet fun look to your Christmas treescape.
15. Dim the lights – Christmas would not be Christmas without the whole house aglow at night, so incorporate real or LED candles throughout your home to spark the Christmas magic.
